Magnesium Deficiency, Inflammation & Pain
What causes pain?
Pain is related to inflammation, toxicity, cell wall rigidity, lack of ATP energy, mineral imbalances, or lack of enzymes and Magnesium, which is needed for 3751 enzyme reactions throughout the body (Human Magnesome:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23095498 )! Dr. Mildred Seelig, magnesium researcher at the University of North Carolina stated that some experts estimate ~70% of cases involving muscle pain, cramps, and/or fatigue (labeled as fibromyalgia, migraine, CFS and constipation), are actually symptoms of magnesium deficiency.
Magnesium reduces cell wall rigidity
A Magnesium : Calcium ratio out of balance makes cell walls rigid because without enough Magnesium, Calcium doesn’t get assimilated in the bones, teeth etc. but dumped into body tissue (e.g. blood vessels, brain) where it NOT belongs to and cells don’t have enough ATP-energy either to pump Calcium out of cells again - The start of chronic inflammation & pain!
How Magnesium supplementation breaks down this circle of inflammation & pain?
Magnesium blocks pain reception. Increasing Mg concentration gradient between cell membranes and extracellular fluid => is blocking NMDA (N-Methyl-D-Aspartate) receptor and brings immediate pain relief! Have a look at this paper.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2451020?dopt=Abstract&holding=npgTherefore Magnesium is a powerful anti-inflammatory! It regenerates body tissue by increasing circulation => effects calcium-magnesium ratios positively => brings down inflammation => relieves muscle spasms (e.g. in blood vessels).
