When blood leaks into brain tissue, the immune system is activated. Iron, clotting proteins and other plasmic particles begin an inflammatory response.

“We can now start connecting the dots between blood leaks in the brain, activation of the immune system, and the elimination of neuronal connections that are important for memory and cognition,” said Gladstone Investigator Katerina Akassoglou.
