Thank you Christopher for your excellent contribution regarding the MSSC letter. I would note that there is even a bigger problem associated with Ms Bonefant's somewhat disturbing letter to the editor. She claims that MSSC actually had contributed much more to research in the 2010-2013 period discussed by MS Hope. She says you have to add in the money contributed by a separate organization, the MS Research Foundation. This is bogus because the amount of money that MSSC contributes to the MS Research Foundation each year is accounted for as part of MSSC's overall research spending for that year. Thus by adding in the MS Research Foundation spending Ms Bonefant is adding that money twice and is thus double accounting. The bottom line is the amount of money MSSC spends on research each year, which includes their funding of the MS Research Foundation is 14-16 cents of each dollar collected as accurately reported by MS Hope. Why MSSC has resorted to distorting the facts so as to make their paltry research funding look better is unknown but one might surmise the answer.
