Multiple sclerosis and angioplasty: demonstration against the position of the College of Physicians of Quebec
May 5, 2011
People with multiple sclerosis have demonstrated Thursday in Montreal at the offices of the College of Physicians in protest against the latter's position on the treatment advocated by the controversial Italian doctor Paolo Zamboni, reports The Canadian Press.
Zamboni's hypothesis, multiple sclerosis is not an autoimmune disease but the result of poor drainage of neck veins (vascular insufficiency or chronic cerebrospinal IVCC) and can be treated by means of angioplasty (called release therapy). The reduced blood flow would cause iron deposition in the brain causing lesions characteristic of the disease.
Deshaies Francine, who organized the event, received treatment in Poland. She believes that it should be available in Quebec.
Similar protests were also planned elsewhere in Canada Thursday.
After Saskatchewan, Manitoba announced last month that it will fund clinical trials testing the therapy angioplasty.
