Bologna - A message of "truth and balance" on the status of studies on the correlation between multiple sclerosis and CCSVI, chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency, a disease discovered by Paolo Zamboni, who for several years created debate within the scientific community.

While it is a step away from the "Brave Dreams", multicenter study funded by the Emilia-Romagna, led by the Zamboni, the charity "CCSVI in MS," the National Research Council in Bologna organized a meeting to take stock of the latest results. "Studies conducted around the world - said the president of the association, Gisella Pandolfo - unrelated to each other, show a close correlation between CCSVI and multiple sclerosis."

Next to the President (honorary away his counterpart, Nicoletta Mantovani), three doctors, Giampiero Avruscio, director of hospital medicine specialist Anthony of Padua, Pietro Maria Bavera, Head angiology and vascular surgery of the Don Gnocchi Foundation in Milan, Pierfrancesco Veroux, director of vascular surgery at the Vittorio Emanuele Hospital in Catania. The three described their experience of diagnosis and treatment of CCSVI, and correlations found with multiple sclerosis.

It is discussed, in particular, the latest data: those of "meta-analysis" prepared by the International Society neurovascular diseases - maximum international authority in this matter - that by catheter venography, or the "golden standard" for diagnosis of diseases vascular, showed the presence of CCSVI sclerosis in patients and confirmed the validity of standardized diagnostic criteria by Zamboni, and a study being published Bevera, which examined over 823 patients a year sclerosis and 60 healthy.

CCSVI and found in 90% of patients and a significant reduction of symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, mobility problems and balance "there may be a coincidence," said Bevera. Finally, further confirmation came also pathological anatomy: a study in Cleveland showed that internal membranes and valve defects are present in 90% of dead people, already suffering from sclerosis.
