Wednesday, September 19, 2012 9:17 PM | CCSVI in Multiple Sclerosis Volg link

Time for good news/bad news about the upcoming European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis conference.

The good news:  There are more posters, abstracts and presentations on CCSVI than ever before.  And many of them show positive associations with MS and CCSVI.

The bad news:  Anti-CCSVI neurologists are digging in their heels.

One example is Dr. Giancarlo Comi, the very vocal opponent of CCSVI research in Italy, who began his own 50+ multi-center doppler studies (COSMO) after removing Dr. Zamboni's doppler protocol.  These studies are being funded by the Italian MS Society, of which Dr. Comi is the lead consulting neurologist.  If last year's ECTRIMS conference was any indication, we can expect lots of bluster, theatrics and negative findings from Dr. Comi and his crew.   More information on the COSMO doppler studies in Italy and Dr. Comi's very long list of pharmaceutical relationships--

Another interesting presentation to note is Kuwaiti neurologist Dr. Alroughani, making a presentation on the Kuwaiti CCSVI study, without bringing the IRs along.  He tried this last year at AAN, but his presentation and abstract were removed, due to a public outcry from the Kuwaiti IR team.  He's ba-a-a-ck....

Endovascular treatment of chronic cerebro-spinal venous insufficiency in multiple sclerosis: a retrospective study

R. Alroughani, S. Lamdhade (Kuwait, KW)

Here's what happened last year, when Dr. Alroughani wrote up his impressions of the Kuwaiti study and tried to present it at the AAN conference.

open letter to AAN from Kuwaiti CCSVI team

Here is the compete list of CCSVI related information at ECTRIMS.  I will get the abstracts up and added to this note as they are made available.
