Dear Editor,
Our so-called “universal” health care system, for which we pay dearly, by
the way, ensures that people who smoke cigarettes, who abuse alcohol and
drugs, and who are intentionally obese (and others) get all of the
health care they need.
But this apparently doesn’t apply to those with multiple sclerosis who have the audacity to seek treatment
unavailable here, at medical clinics other than in Canada.
This is the logic of our health care system. Go figure.
Most doctors have integrity in their profession, but they are human, too.
Thus empire-protecting, to ensure they continue to receive funding, and
turf wars abound.
Due diligence is understandable, and expected for any new procedures such as the Liberation treatment (a.k.a. CCSVI)
for persons with MS, but the medical profession appears to have lost
sight of the person suffering with MS.
Perhaps the Canadian medical system and medical profession need a shake-up to remind doctors
of their Hippocratic oath and that they are “obliged,” according to the
Canada Health Act, to treat MS patients who suffer from any side effects
of the Liberation treatment.
