Ken Torbert
Thank you for visiting my page. As founder of CCSVI Alliance, I am happy to be launching our inaugural fundraising walk in conjunction with my friend Nicki Watts. I first heard of CCSVI in May of 2009, when I read Wheelchair Kamikaze's blog, "Does MS have a Vascular Cause?" Jeff Beal had been the first MS patient in the US treated for CCSVI at Stanford by Dr. Mike Dake. The explanation was so logical that I immediately called Dr. Dake to get on his list. Dr. Dake was not in my insurance network and I started my search to be diagnosed and treated on the east coast. I participated in a diagnostic study at SUNY Buffalo in Sept. 09 and by October 10th I had my mrv in hand, a neck full of collateral veins that looked like spaghetti and 100 emails sent to interventional radiologists at university hospitals in the NY tri-state area. On Dec. 29th, 2009 I was the first person treated for CCSVI on the east coast by Dr. Salvatore Sclafani. My angioplasty treatment has kept me stable for the past year, which is miraculous since I slid downhill for three years prior. I'm still rolling around in my wheelchair, giving Wheelchair Kamikaze a run for his money! Walk-n-Roll is named for those of us who will participate in our wheelchairs or rollators. With research, I'm hopeful our event will be renamed Walk-n-Walk. Please support me in the CCSVI Alliance's efforts to educate MS patients and caregivers and help scientists and doctors solve the mystery of CCSVI and MS. |
