NDP Leader Brian Mason is calling for the Stelmach government to quit dithering and fund an effective clinical trial of the CCSVI treatment for MS.
“Victims of this degenerative disease don’t have years to lose while the Premier Stelmach gets his act together,” said Mason. “This government wants to wait three years before it gets serious about this health issue.”
“This treatment is intriguing and deserves further research. Funding clinical trials in Alberta may help those who suffer from MS,” Mason said. “We won’t know if this procedure is effective for MS patients unless it conducts clinical trials.”
Mason wrote to Health Minister Gene Zwozdesky months ago advocating for clinical trials to proceed.
“The government could have got the ball rolling on CCSVI studies months ago. Who knows why they waited until now to make an announcement,” Mason said.
