The Endovascular Program You Have Been Waiting For!
Offering one of the finest programs in the meeting's 23-year history, ISET 2011
will cover the trials, topics and debates with the greatest impact on
the field.
Program Highlights:
Sunday, January 16
Full-day Symposium on Noninvasive Vascular Diagnosis
This comprehensive, full-day course covers noninvasive vascular testing in
the areas of intra- and extracranial carotid disease, venous disease and
arterial, mesenteric and abdominal testing. Scanning on patients,
interactive case presentations and faculty panels enhance a program that
includes in-depth coverage of the featured topics. This course provides
dedicated CME that can be applied toward requirements of readers in
accredited laboratories. The faculty includes vascular surgeons,
interventional radiologists, interventional cardiologists, vascular
medicine specialists and neurologists who are all nationally and
internationally acclaimed. The symposium can be purchased as a
stand-alone or as part of the full ISET meeting.
Innovations in Cardiac and Vascular Care: Advanced Interventions for Nurses and Technologists
This annual program offers members of the interventional support team the
opportunity to effectively update their knowledge. Featuring interactive
panel/audience discussions, in-depth lectures and video presentations
of advanced procedures, the course is taught by physicians, nurses and
technologists from Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute and
addresses issues related to procedures and collaborative patient care.
The symposium can be purchased as a stand-alone or as part of the full
ISET meeting.
The Opening Night Welcome Reception in the ISET Exhibit Hall
This annual gathering of the endovascular community offers the perfect
opportunity to meet casually with colleagues, new friends and the many
industry representatives on hand to share information. Following the
reception, Dr. Stephen Ferrara, an interventional radiologist with the
Naval Medical Center in San Diego, will present a talk on battlefield
medicine, during which he will share his gripping experience as a
front-line medic in Afghanistan, where he introduced endovascular
therapies for combat casualties.
Monday, January 17
Town Hall Meeting - Controversy Rages! Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous
Insufficiency: Is It Real and Is There a Role for Endovascular Therapy?
Reminiscent
of the controversy that surrounded angioplasty in its early days, the
growing global debate swirling around the endovascular procedure to
treat chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency (CCSVI) and possibly
improve the symptoms of patients with multiple sclerosis will get a
comprehensive hearing. Leaders with clinical and research experience in
the use of the procedure - as well as the head of a growing patient
advocacy movement in favor of fast-tracking its approval - will gather
to separate fact from fiction.
Session on Drug-eluting Stents and Drug-eluting Balloons for Peripheral Applications
Do DES improve long-term results? The first release of the two-year Zilver
PTX trial results will inform this comprehensive overview of devices of
paramount importance to peripheral interventionists. Among other
issues, experts will cover biodegradable stents and the lessons learned
in coronary applications of DES.
Session on Carotid Therapy and Stroke Prevention
What's the role of endovascular therapy in stroke prevention and what changes
will we see in 2011? Beginning with a full update on the CREST trial,
this look at the state of carotid therapy will include current thinking
on stenting, embolic protection, treating endarterectomy restenosis and
related issues from internationally renowned experts.
Monday Concurrent Sessions:
- Complex PTCA and Structural Heart Disease
- Carotid Interventions
- Late-breaking Trials and Proffered Papers
Tuesday, January 18
The Charles Tegtmeyer Lecture: "Medical Innovation in Crisis: Realities and Next Steps."
Internationally recognized interventional cardiologist Martin Leon, M.D., will examine
the economic forces, health-care reform and the regulatory atmosphere
that have, when combined with other factors, led to a gradual slowdown
of medical innovation. What does the future hold for the
technology-driven field of endovascular therapy?
Session on Acute Aortic Pathology: Taking Endovascular Therapy to the Limits
What is truly possible in aneurysm repair? New advances in EVAR and TEVAR
continue to push the boundaries, and ISET will showcase the latest
technology. To be covered by the experts: Top Ten Tips on Using EVAR for
Ruptured AAA;
Five-year Experience with TEVAR for Acute Dissection;
Pre-close Techniques; Bilateral Hypogastric Artery Interruption;
Snorkel Procedure for Complex EVAR; The Brazilian Trifurcation Procedure
for Preservation of Hypogastric Arteries and much more.
Tuesday Concurrent Sessions:
- Radial Access
- Endografts
- Renal and Visceral Intervention
Wednesday, January 19
Innovations in SFA Therapy: An Intercontinental Meeting of the Minds
ISET and the Leipzig Interventional Course (LINC) will present live case
demonstrations on both sides of the Atlantic that feature
next-generation technology and variations on applications of approved
technologies with an emphasis on new approaches. Experts at both ISET
and LINC will drill down on the educational points and then follow up
with an insightful discussion of the differences in treatment options
available to patients in the United States and Europe.
Wednesday Concurrent Sessions:
- Venous Interventions
- Neurointervention for the Non-neurointerventionist
- Critical Limb Ischemia
Thursday, January 20
Coffee with the Course Directors: Live Case Follow-up
This small-group learning opportunity will bring together ISET course
directors to examine the outcomes and report on the continuing progress
of patients who participated in the live case procedures. The gathering
will provide important follow-up information and help to extract maximum
educational value from the featured peripheral and coronary live cases.
Closed-door Session on Complications: My Worst Nightmare
A reality check for practitioners, this closed-door session covers
difficult and surprising cases, many of which ended with
less-than-optimal results. All have one thing in common: They offer an
excellent learning opportunity as doctors recount, firsthand, the
unforeseeable problems and special challenges each case posed. Due to
the sensitive nature of this session, attendees will be asked to sign a
confidentiality statement prior to entering.
A Practical Session on Endovascular Therapy in the Treatment of MS Patients
Chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency (CCSVI) refers to the blockage of
veins that drain from the central nervous system and has been identified
as the possible cause of multiple sclerosis in some patients. The
advent of a new procedure that could potentially address the problem of
CCSVI and possibly improve the symptoms of select MS sufferers will be
featured when those experienced in its use discuss the clinical aspects
of the therapy -- including diagnostics, patient selection and technique
-- and whether interventionists should engage in such treatment in the
first place.
PLUS:
- 20 live cases in high definition from Baptist Cardiac & Vascular Institute in Miami
- "Coffee with the Experts" small-group sessions that cover single topics in depth
and provide an ideal opportunity for questions (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
- Poster presentations and special Poster Session (Tuesday) with authors
- Interactive audience polling throughout the meeting
- Debates and talks from expert faculty representing interventional
radiology, interventional cardiology, vascular surgery and related
fields
