Hi All:

Just thought I would post this information from a trial consent form. I will only touch on the key points. Study is funded by the MS Society and the Lotte and John Hecht Memorial Foundation. Principle Investigator Dr Traboulsee. Whos invited ?  Non-MS sufferers of patients participting in the study, twin or sibling or spouse/partner. ( But we are so desperate you family member does not have to be participating just have MS) One hundred subjects are needed 50 twin 50 spousal. You will be required to have the following performed:

Ultrasound, risks minimal discomfort.

MRV, risks none known, problems that could rise metal in eyes get tested prior, pace makers, artificial limbs metal objects, claustrophobia or anxiety from unexpected findings, Gladolinium (contrast dye) may cause mild nausea, injection site irritation , allergic reactions only in patients with renal problems.

Catheter Venography, risks, contrast reaction less than 0.0025%, venous thrombosis less than 0.1 %, venous rupture less than 0.1 %, nausea 1.04 %, heat sensation 0.92%, vomiting 0.36 %, itching 0.45 %, skin hives 0.47 %, flushing 0.16 %, vascular pain 0.05 %, hoarseness 0.02 %, sneezing 0.24 %, coughing 0.15 %, chestpain 0.03 %, abdominal pain 0.02 %, palpitations 0.06 %, facial oedema 0.01 %, chills, 0.03%, shortness of breath 0.04 %, low blood pressure 0.01 %, cardiac arrest 0.0001 %, loss of consciousness 0.0004%.

In the majority of cases, venous rupture is asymptomatic and requires no treatment. In the unlikely event of a major vein rupture, treatment would be 5 minutes of intervascular balloon inflation, which typically suffices as a stand alone therapy. Very rarely, in patients with blood clotting disorders such complications may lead to death.

SWI, looks at veins,  blood vessels in the brain, concentration of iron deposits, risks non-ivasive.

Physical and blood test. You will be compensated for transport and parking

With all these risks being so low how come MS suffers cannot get treatment in Canada?
