Progressive Conservatives support clinical trials for Nova Scotians suffering from MS HALIFAX, NS – Cape Breton West MLA Alfie MacLeod re-introduced legislation today that would begin clinical trials of Liberation Therapy for Nova Scotians who suffer from Multiple Sclerosis (MS). “I would like nothing more than for Nova Scotia to be a leader in determining, one way or the other, if Liberation Therapy is an effective treatment of MS. This Bill would allow that research to take place,” said MacLeod. “This is an issue that is close to my heart. I believe it is time this government committed to move forward with clinical trials.” MacLeod tabled his Bill before speaking at a rally of Liberation Therapy supporters outside Province House. The rally was part of a nationwide campaign to ensure MS sufferers have access to the treatment. There have been concerns about MS patients not getting proper follow-up care after they have received the treatment abroad, something MacLeod has questioned the Health Minister about in the past. “The Health Minister committed that no one would be denied Liberation Therapy after care in Nova Scotia and I was pleased to hear that from her,” said MacLeod. “It is my hope that government will take the next step and support this legislation that would allow MS sufferers to have Liberation Therapy treatment here in Nova Scotia and have it covered by MSI.” In the Legislature on November 18, 2010, Minister Maureen MacDonald stated “I can assure members of this Legislature and the public that our specialists community, our MS practitioners and our other practitioners are there to provide services to anybody in this situation who develops complications as a result of any of the procedures that they may have outside of this province. That is not in question.” http://www.pccaucus.ns.ca/?q=node%2F3513
