Re: "MS sufferers need answers," Editorial, Aug. 29.

The board of directors of Direct-MS, Canada's second largest multiple sclerosis charity, would like to thank the Calgary Herald for the insightful and to-the-point editorial on the multiple sclerosis and CCSVI dilemma.

The Herald correctly pointed out that continued delay by Alberta Health regarding the funding of a proper trial which tests the efficacy of CCSVI for MS will lead only to additional suffering by persons with MS.

Health Minister Gene Zwozdesky has to show compassionate leadership on this major issue and see to it that a clinical trial gets on the rails as soon as possible.

The MS community of Alberta needs to know as soon as possible whether or not CCSVI treatment is safe and effective.

Ashton Embry, Calgary Ashton Embry is president of Direct-MS.
