Ended up in the hospital this week with vitamin D toxicity, which I had no idea this could happen since my level was so low to begin with (7). Was taking 10,000 IU a day for about a month plus going to the tanning bed twice a week. Felt better than I had in years.....then I crashed. How could this happen?? Well my primary care doctor told me to call him if my vitamin D level was low when my labs come in. I did...for two weeks! And he wouldn't return my call and his receptionist did not suggest a follow up appointment. I think this is because I have lousy insurance- either way this is called neglect and the f*cker is gonna be reported. So I started reading online what to take or do. Dr. Bill Code states on his website that 10,000 IU a day is safe and that's what he takes per day. Then I had a researcher (not mentioning his name and opening up a new can of worms on here) tell me take as much as you can to prevent relapse of MS- he suggested 14,000 IU or more per day. So I figured I was safe taking 10,000 IU a day with the tanning bed. Plus on a vitamin d forum a guy said his level was a 6 and his doctor prescribed him 150,000 IU a week for 6 weeks and he didn't get toxicity- and he said after 6 weeks of that dose his level only went up to 14. So maybe everyone's body is different. I guess I'm just saying be careful so you dont go throught the scary episode that I went through. Know the symptoms of vitamin d toxicity if you are taking it.
