Hi all, we have been asked several times over the past week what we think of all the buzz about the CSF.
We measured CSF flow using MRI with Dr Haacke in our study and were not convinced that the flow changes were significant. At around this time there was a press release regarding a new MRI that could be horizontal or upright but this study was not published in a peer review journal. Now, more recently several studies have shown abnormal CSF drainage and these studies are complimented by the studies on perfusion. All of this new information combined suggests that brain flow stagnation and poor drainage may be the keys to more than one neurodegenerative condition. This is all incredibly exciting and appears to tip the research focus toward perfusion and away from T cell mechanisms.

David's JVIR study should be published any day now. In the discussion he states " the cause of MS is unknown, the autoimmune theory remains unproven. Although it is clear that MS lesions are characterized by inflammation, in particular macrophage phagocytosis of myelin debris, it has not been demonstrated that T cells initiate an attack on intact myelin or on the myelin making oligodendrocytes. To the contrary, there is substantial evidence that oligodendrocytes become apoptotic before the onset of an inflammatory response."
Perhaps it is time for all of our organizations to sign a letter to the MS organizations calling for a shift in funding away from T cell studies and toward perfusion/drainage studies.
