Marco Salvatore Dr. Marco Salvatore 2015 ISNVD Conference President, will give the Welcome Address to conference attendees. As noted by Dr. Paolo Zamboni in our recent Alliance video , Dr. Salvatore and his team at the Institute of Biostructure and Bioimaging (IBB) of the Italian National Research Council, are involved in extensive experimental and clinical research in diagnostic imaging of various pathologies. Research related to multiple sclerosis and neurodegenerative disorders include:
- Multiple Sclerosis: Cerebral Circulation Time
Conclusion: These results suggest that contrast-enhanced US with CCT assessment may have a role in the evaluation of cerebral blood flow in patients with MS and that a vascular impairment could be associated with MS. The finding of a prolonged CCT at contrast-enhanced US does not result from outflow impairment. Further studies are required to verify these observations and to clarify if CCT and CCSVI have any physiologic and clinical relevance in
MS.

- Internal Jugular Vein Blood Flow in Multiple Sclerosis Patients and Matched Controls
Conclusion: These results suggest that MS is associated with changes in the dynamics of the internal jugular vein.

- Imaging of brain perfusion in multiple sclerosis and neurodegenerative disorders: association with endothelial factors. An interim analysis.
Conclusions: Combining different imaging modalities and laboratory analysis may provide new insights into the vascular aspects of MS pathogenesis. These preliminary results favor an altered vascular profile in MS and ALS patients. Definitive results will be available at project termination in 2016.

Two satellite programs are offered this year 1) Ultrasound course - Echo-color Doppler of the Extra and Intracranial Vessels and 2) MRI course – Advances in Cardiovascular MRI.
Included speakers will be:
Dr. Maria Giannoni's presentation during the ultrasound session is titled Vulnerable plaque– it will be based on her extensive research using ultrasonography.
