First Book on CCSVI set to release in April: Can innovatively fund Multiple Sclerosis research

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Jan 30, 2011 – Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency (CCSVI) has increasingly been a familiar term for the Multiple Sclerosis community since late 2009. However, there has been a constant struggle in adequately funding the research in this field to establish the role of CCSVI within MS.

"CCSVI as the Cause of Multiple Sclerosis: The Science Behind the Controversial Theory" is the first book bringing CCSVI to the mainstream and helping the common MS patients better understand it. Marie Rhodes is an RN and patient/advocate for MS who is active in the online community. She was the second patient treated for CCSVI at Stanford.

The author has pledged to contribute 10% of her proceeds to CCSVI Alliance. CCSVI Alliance is a non profit charity started by MS patients interested in advancing CCSVI treatment and research.  It is a legal 501(3)(c) charity currently staffed by volunteers.  The funds they collect are used to promote awareness and fund research of CCSVI. The author volunteers on the patient board for CCSVI alliance as well.

Given the number of MS patients the world over, the sale of this first book on CCSVI can itself act as a strong boost in funding further research. Based on the inputs from publishing industry experts, even if 1 out of 2 MS patients in North America are to buy this book, it can easily contribute close to US$100,000 in CCSVI research. Not only this, if a mere 12-15% of the MS community world over was to contribute to its sales, the book would easily generate a similar amount in research funding for CCSVI Alliance. This does not take into account the general readers who might be interested in buying the book to explore this field.

While CCSVI is a promising model, there is no commercial incentive to funding research. Therefore patients must find ways to generate the needed funds so that interested physicians can do the needed research.

The book can be pre-ordered on Amazon at a discounted rate. Please use the following links to order your books NOW -

For Canadian readers - The price is CDN$ 34.76 - http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/0786460385?ie=UTF8&tag=m ...

Various MS related Health Activist sites have appealed the MS patients to show their solidarity in funding CCSVI research by ordering as many copies of the book as possible. Many of the MS patients have had miraculous relief through CCSVI treatment and have benefited in more ways than one. It is time to give back and pave the way for a better quality of life for many other MS patients in future. It is a humble request to order the book at the earliest and make a seemingly small, but very vital gesture, for those suffering from Multiple Sclerosis.

Here are some of the excerpts from the publicly available information about the book -

Paolo Zamboni MD published his first paper describing the theory that MS may be a type of venous insufficiency in 2006.  Since that time,  he has published numerous other groundbreaking studies that have further elucidated the idea.

But Dr Zamboni isn't the first MS researcher to notice problems with veins in MS; the fact  that enlarged veins are in the center of MS lesions was noted as early as the 1860's and is well known today.  But what do these widened veins tell us about MS?

This book follows this journey of discovery and highlights related MS research that supports the theory.  Referencing over 250 research papers published in the field of MS, it tells the MS story from a venous perspective.

For interested patients it also includes a detailed section on how these venous issues could be treated highlighting concerns that patients should discuss with their personal physician.  There are also 12 patient stories including several who were treated at Stanford in 2009 as well as the story of one of the patients treated by Dr Zamboni in 2006.

Reviewed by the leading researchers in this field including Dr Zamboni with a foreword by E. Mark Haacke PhD, this book is a must have for people wanting to understand this model.
