                                                       Compassion where are you?

Oh Canada,

What has happened to our compassion for our fellow Canadians?

Our Medical system has failed us in the most inhumane way by denying the only possible option left to save many lives. I know what you’re thinking- what is it? The procedure is called venoplasty that is performed by Interventional Radiologists. Why are they not performing it you ask? Good question- this procedure is preformed all over Canada on a daily basis to correct venous issues for many Canadians, unless, you have been given the label of Multiple Sclerosis. If this is the only option left for someone in advance stages of MS, why would doctors not perform this common procedure?

Did doctors not enter the medical profession in order to save lives?  What happened to the oath that doctors made to use all of their medical knowledge to save lives?

Doctors have been told by the College of Physicians and Surgeons that they are not to perform the venoplasty procedure on someone with MS.  If they do, these doctors will have their licenses revoked. I feel that the majority of doctors want to help but losing their licences will not help anyone.

How many people are in hospitals with advance stages of MS in Canada right now with no options available for them? Canada, if it was your family member in the hospital with no hope for a future and they were being denied a common procedure - What would you do?

Canada, there has been too many loved ones with the label of MS who have been forced to die without having a chance at a procedure that could help. Why would our Health Minister and the College of Physicians condemn fellow Canadians to death without giving the option for a venoplasty procedure?

Canada, please allow those with no other treatment options a chance of having this safe and proven procedure.

Please allow others to have a chance to have their loved ones given back to them as I have.

Sincerely Lorin Powell
