Abstract

The aim of this paper was to document clinical improvements after endovascular treatment for chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency in a group of clinically defined multiple sclerosis patients. There were assessed clinical results of the treatment of 94 patients and follow-up was 6 months. We have found statistically significant improvements of clinical symptoms of multiple sclerosis measured with Multiple Sclerosis Impact Scale-29 (MSIS-29) questionnaires: in terms of total MSIS-29 scores, as well as well as of MSIS-29 physical and psychological domains. Similarly, the patients experienced an improvement of chronic fatigue syndrome measured with Fatigue Severity Scale and Epworth sleepiness questionnaires. On the contrary, no statistically significant improvement of heat intolerance occurred. Our preliminary results confirm the findings of the previous studies that have found positive effect of endovascular treatment for venous pathologies on clinical course of multiple sclerosis. These results are encouraging and warranting further studies on this topic.
