A new study (a meta-analysis, actually) about Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency (CCSVI) is due out next week and I’m wondering if I should blog about it.

The meta-analysis takes into consideration the findings of eight research facilities and is expected to report some general trends in the research into a circulatory connection in multiple sclerosis (MS).

The reason I ask the question in our title is that every time I mention CCSVI — whether in support of research or questioning the theory — our comments pages are filled with scores of sometimes-readers who jump all over us for even considering that this may not be the answer. I can take the personal attacks, but I don’t accept sharpened sticks being pointed at our community by those who see the topic differently than I.

I’ve also seen from your comments that many of you, our regulars, don’t enjoy such heated debate and skip those posts all together.

I’m not expecting anything big and new or exciting in this report but wanted to present the idea of covering its release to you, our community. I said in our first post over five years ago that this is “all about you.” So, I’m asking you what you’d like.

There was a research study update on the topic from the National MS Society a few months back, but I didn’t report on that because it was basically stating the enrollment of studies and not any real data. This study will have some information gleaned from research in at least five countries.

No matter how I report the information, there will be some personal bias; this is after all a “blog” and not a medical journal. We try to make things factual, but many of you are here for more than “just the facts, ma’am” reading. Besides, seldom are research papers without room for more questions to be asked and answered.

So, I’m asking because this is our site, not mine.

Should I cover this next research announcement and every one thereafter? Should I only report those that have what I consider substantial information? Or would you rather just have links to press releases on such research?

Asking for your input.

Wishing you the best of health.

Cheers

Trevis
