EMC News - As many are probably aware, Multiple Sclerosis is a serious illness that affects the lives of thousands of Canadians in this community and across the country.

Ashton resident Dayle Baich was struck by Multiple Sclerosis about three years ago and has gone from a successful business owner and mother of three to a woman with extreme mobility issues and unable to care for herself.

Dayle's MS is called Secondary Progressive and does not respond to medication. A pair of upcoming fundraising events aim to raise money to fund a very costly treatment not available in Canada called the Liberation Treatment (CCSVI). This past July the federal government announced it will fund clinical trials into this MS treatment, but this will take time. Baich does not have time, her MS is progressing at an alarming rate, and therefore she is opting to have the procedure done outside of Canada.

CCSVI was developed by Italian physician Dr. Paolo Zamboni. Although his theory (that narrowed neck veins that reduce the blood flow and allow iron deposits to build up in the brain are behind MS symptoms) has not yet been proven, Baich believes this treatment has improved the symptoms of patients all over the world.

Dayle's Quest for Hope foundation has organized two fundraising events. The first takes place at the Carleton Place Canoe Club (179 John Street behind Carleton Place High School on the river) and features the band "Take Five" on Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. The Rainbow Bistro in Ottawa will host an open jam to all musicians with River City Junction on Oct. 30 from 3 to 7 p.m.

Both events will be hosting a pay bar, silent auction, raffles, and exciting door prizes that include Sens tickets, concert tickets, spa packages, and restaurant gift certificates. Tickets are $10 at the door and are also available at these locations: Temptations 117 Bridge Street, Carleton Place 257-7406, The Old Mill Ashton Pub, 113 Old Mill Road, Ashton 257-4423, Rivington Suzuki Hwy. 7 at Hwy. 15 Carleton Place 613-253-3403, or contact Lisa Brankin at 613-492-0106 or Amy Baich at 613-979-2520 for more information.

The goal for Dayle's procedure is $10,000 so please join us at the Canoe Club, Rainbow Bistro or on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dayle-Baichs-Quest-For-Hope-How-to-Donate/253785894658023 to help her move closer to that goal and give Dayle hope for the future with her family.
