The subject of chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency (CCSVI), a condition linked with multiple sclerosis, is to be debated and discussed by experts in endovascular therapy at the 24th annual International Symposium on Endovascular Therapy (ISET).

Doctor Checking Chart

ISET is regularly attended by doctors, scientists, researchers and other professionals interested in the multidisciplinary field of cardiac and peripheral interventional medicine. The next ISET symposium will take place from January 15-19 2012 at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach.

On the morning of January 19 innovators will tackle the topic of CCSVI and its treatment. Paolo Zamboni from the University of Ferrara, who pioneered the term CCSVI as well as the condition’s treatment, will look at new diagnostic methods for the disease. Michael Dake from the Stanford University Medical Center will begin the session and answer many of the unanswered questions surrounding CCSVI as well as updating the audience on ongoing research. Dake was the first surgeon to operate on CCSVI-related stenosis in the United States.

Other speakers include Lindsay Machan, M.D., of the University of British Columbia, Jack Burks, M.D., of the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America (MSAA) and Gary Siskin, M.D., of the Albany Medical Center. These physicians will talk about the imaging evaluation of CCSVI patients, the current status of CCSVI in Canada, techniques and pitfalls of CCSVI intervention, CCSVI collaboration and outcomes from individual CCSVI treatment centers.
