Writer Anne Kingston's comments on the NMSS webinar on new MS research which happened earlier today (the recorded version will be posted later at the link below.) Let us know in the comments if you listened in today. Here's Anne's insight.

"Anyone interested in MS or the state of MS research, check out today's upbeat National MS Society "web-inar." It occurred to me that if I'd taken a shot every time MS research was called "exciting," I'd have a new drinking game and would have been plastered."

"Choice tidbits: MD Stephen Krieger- "We don’t understand MS yet." On research: "We’re building the house and the foundation at the same time" (whaaa?) Also credit taken for 11 MS drugs since 1992, more than for any neuro condition. No mention of CCSVI research. But big shout-out for BG-12 at 45 min mark which of course was the point of the exercise. Takeaway: they don't have a clue and MS patients are treated like crash test dummies."

(there was some) "enthusiasm about Vitamin D playing a role in MS, though clinical trials had to be done. Also, nutrition and exercise could help! And this: "It's naive to think we can find one cause." No one had the wit to suggest that might mean MS is more than one condition. I was livid by the end. (You're right: It would be comic were it not so tragic.")

Thanks, Anne.

MS stops people from moving. The National MS Society exists to make sure it doesn't.
