DR. MIRO DENISLIC, NEUROLOGIST (UNIVERSITY OF LJUBLJANA, SLOVENIA)
"I read with the great interest the article published in Nature (Louveau et al). The presence of lymphatic vessels in CNS is a new step in understanding the different processes in the central nervous system. According to this excellent study discovering the pathway of the immune cells, the importance of venous drainage through extracranial veins might increase the role of veins stenoses as described by Dr. Zamboni. The obstacle of lymphatic drainage may certainly influence the inflammatory and neurodegenerative processes in CNS. This study confirms the venous role in the aethiology of autoimmune diseases. The presence of dura mater vasculature might provide the better understanding of many brain diseases and supports futher investigation of the vessels role which was often underestimated. I hope that this study will bring a new wind searching the origin of the immune diseases within CNS."
