The latest Jama paper on Paulo's efforts has had me thinking ......
When it all boils down the $ that are going to be spent on eg a PwMS are often HUGE!
The options for a person with an active form of the disease 'could' be vetted differently now that Science has shown that there are triggers and there are ways to decrease the frequency of those trigger events or periods.
If diet, mindfulness and stress management training and adherence are achieved in PwMS the disease is shown by peer-reviewed papers to be managed into a state of remission.
In simple terms the options for a person with an active form of disease are few and the Medical Mainstream approach is to use Disease Modifying Drugs, in other words, suppress the symptoms and that may or may not work ALSO the treatment cannot be for Life and often when stopped the disease flares in a rapid way of progression and disability increases.
When you do some basic maths the Medical Insurance or Government Health System or Personal Cost is often in $ terms high, eg $NZ50,000 pa or higher.
Processing that you have to wonder about the drive by the Medical Industry. Who is the Medical Industry driver(s)?
The mental processing I did came to a place where the research about diet, mindfulness and stress management is solid. The research that CCSVI is a frequent issue in MS (plus other degenerative chronic auto-immune style diseases) is also solid.
These options combined would not cost $NZ50,000 annually .........
So why is the Medical Industry driving a drug-based treatment when the alternative to that going by the Research and the peer reviews of research in Journals is cheaper and has positive outcomes that are not causing a cascade effect of either co-morbid diseases accumulating or shortening the Lifespan and Quality of Life of the PwMS?
WHY?
Why is the Money Market driving the treatment choices when the positive choice is cheaper and better outcomes?
WHY, WHY, WHY?
Is it that we PwMS have to stand on our hind legs and say Hey, stop the Bus!
