Last night I was interviewed by Amber Lee on our local news about multiple sclerosis. There is a newly approved drug that works on the CD20 protein of your B cells, much like an earlier version that went off patent in 2015, known as Rituxan. That drug suppressed the immune system with fewer cases of PML and death than other similar drugs. I spoke about hope and the treatment that seems to have improved and arrested progression of my disease in 2010. That was not a drug, rather it was angioplasty of my jugular veins for #CCSVI. The diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis is life-changing. U.S. Food and Drug Administration approves a new drug that gives hope to patients. The brand name is Ocrevus by Genentech . Dr. Stephen Hauser with UCSF Neurology -Mission Bay; oversaw the clinical trials. He described the results as "stunning." Hauser says the drug can slow the progression of MS where a patient may not have to use assistance such as a cane or a wheelchair. #KTVU
