Calcium and vitamin D intakes may be positively associated with brain lesions in depressed and non-depressed elders, Nutr Res. 2009

...The finding of an association between calcium, vitamin D, and brain lesions is consistent with the hypothesized role of calcium dysregulation in the etiology of brain lesions. Intakes of calcium and vitamin D were found to be significantly positively associated with brain lesion volume among elderly individuals. After controlling for potential confounders, calcium and vitamin D remained significantly associated with lesion volume. These findings raise the possibility that calcium and vitamin D may have detrimental effects on brain health...”
