Looking Beyond Amyloid in Alzheimer's Diseases – “Over the past 30 years, billions have been spent putting the amyloid hypothesis in Alzheimer's disease to the test."

In February 2014, Dr Paula Grammas, keynote speaker at the ISNVD conference talked of the need to move the Alzheimer’s research forward by studying other targets including a vascular connection. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIaPgxOC_4o&feature=player_embedded

FINALLY, other neurologists and research scientists are coming to the same conclusion. Published August 17, 2015 on MedPage Today:

Looking Beyond Amyloid in Alzheimer's Diseases – “Over the past 30 years, billions have been spent putting the amyloid hypothesis in Alzheimer's disease to the test. After several failed attempts at targeting pathways involved in the accumulation of this protein in the brain, researchers are acknowledging that there's probably more to the Alzheimer's picture -- that it may be something else, or some other combination of factors, that causes the neurodegeneration that leads to the disease's characteristic cognitive impairment.” http://www.medpagetoday.com/Neurology/AlzheimersDisease/53099?isalert=1&uun=g330925d0R5324908u&xid=NL_newsanalysis_2015_08_17

Two Minds on Amyloid – “Both Rachelle Doody, MD, PhD, of Baylor College of Medicine, and Karl Herrup, PhD, of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, agree that beta-amyloid likely has some role in Alzheimer's disease. But, in this video, they advocate different strategies for moving forward with this target in Alzheimer's therapy. While Doody calls for further exploration of the subgroups where amyloid treatments might be influential, Herrup urges researchers to push past those trials and focus on investigating other targets.”

Last Hopes for the Amyloid Hypothesis in Alzheimer's? – “Researchers have been testing the amyloid hypothesis for more than 30 years, often with disappointing results. When will it be time to throw in the towel? If the results of the trials listed below are negative, the amyloid cascade hypothesis will be in "serious, serious trouble," as one expert recently told MedPage Today.”
