Are you like me? Woke up this morning realizing that the extended Christmas weekend contributed to over-indulging in family food traditions. Knowing there are tempting leftovers in the fridge, I decided they needed to be cleaned out – the sooner, the better. That task completed, it was important for me to get back to my normal exercise routine, so I wrapped up in my winter coat (it was 9 degrees this morning in Golden, CO) and set out to class. What a difference an hour of exercise can do for one’s perspective, mentally and physically.

Speaking about exercise – have you all seen the new MS Gym? You might want to check them out. I usually do not recommend specific diet, exercise and or pharma programs; but, I think the MS Gym is definitely a program that could benefit those with neurodegenerative disease. It is accessible online – there is a free exercise program and, also a membership program. Trevor Wicken who runs the MS Gym, concentrates on reducing muscle spasticity which leads to reducing the overactive neurologic signal going to the muscles and tendons. As with any new therapy program, the effectiveness is measured by your dedication to it and where your own personal starting point is. The MS Gym exercises accommodates those in wheelchairs and those who use walkers.

Let me know what you think……Sharon Richardson
