Weston A. Price Foundation: Excessive vitamin D supplementation is becoming a real concern... Excessive vitamin D supplementation is becoming a real concern, potentially leading to unwanted calcium deposits in soft tissues like heart vessels and the kidneys, according to new research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The Weston A. Price Foundation has never recommended that vitamin D be supplemented in isolation. Our recommendation has always been sensible sun exposure along with high vitamin cod liver oil and other excellent food sources of all of the fat soluble vitamins, A, D, K2, and E. Articles like Chris Masterjohn's "Beyond Good and Evil" ( https://www.westonaprice.org/health-topics/abcs-of-nutrition/beyond-good-and-evil/) published in Wise Traditions in 2012, help us understand why the native populations Dr. Price studied highly valued foods like organ meats, full fat dairy, eggs, and seafood - they knew that they could help them have healthy children and stay healthy for life. Our members don't have to worry about vitamin D being enough or too much - vitamins A and K2 in all those nourishing foods support the role of vitamin D and eliminate any potential for vitamin D to cause harm. Watch for our upcoming article in the Summer edition of Wise Traditions on what you need to know about vitamin D testing and supplementation. You will want to share this with your family and friends, and maybe even your medical doctor!
