Re: MS mom grabs 'Holy Grail,' by Sonja Puzic, Nov. 22.

The following statement is somewhat misleading: "Heeding the advice of an
expert panel on the issue, the federal government has decided not to

fund clinical trials of liberation therapy until more research is done

to determine its safety and effectiveness."

First of all, the "expert" panel did not include anyone who had any experience with the
angioplasty procedure. How can they be "experts" with no experience?

And what is most frustrating is the premise that they are waiting for
"more research ... to determine safety and effectiveness."

Please understand that none of the research funded by the MS Society has anything to do with "safety and effectiveness."

The research projects underway are only looking at the association between
MS and CCSVI and to compare methods of imaging to diagnose CCSVI.

At this rate, it will be years before actual treatment studies are undertaken.

You cannot blame MS patients for their frustration at this rhetoric.

We are being told to suffer quietly while the MS Society dithers. What choice do we have?

MS drugs such as Tysabri have resulted in 15 deaths and 70 more with a
fatal brain disease, with one to two cases per thousand users. This is

not a viable choice.

We must begin treatment studies as soon as possible so that Canadians can be safely treated at home.
