I just wanted to clarify something: I have heard through the rumor mill that some think that we advocate stenting over angioplasty. This is just not true. We prefer to only angioplasty, and reserve stents for those situations where angioplasty is a major failure (the vein is worse after, or has
closed down completely). In fact, very few of our patients have received stents. The vast majority have been treated with angioplasty alone. We consent everybody for stents just in case there is an emergency that requires placement of a stent, like if the vein completely closes down
after the angioplasty. We would love to only angioplasty everybody. I hope this clarifies the issue. David Sperling, MD http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=113298388742470&id=100001169527593
