Accos. Prof. Marian Simka, MD, PhD - Conference President, Poland


A graduate of Medical University of Silesia in Katowice. Since 1988 until 2001 he had been working in the Clinic of General and Vascular Surgery in Katowice. Since 2000 he has administered a vascular clinic in Pszczyna. Doctor Simka, as a well-known and respected authority on vascular medicine, is a member of many scientific societies: International Union of Angiology, European Venous Forum and Polish Phlebological Society. He takes part in symposia and international conventions where he gives presentations showing his researches conducted up to now. In 2009, doctor Simka became a consultant vascular surgeon in Euromedic in Katowice.
Doctor Simka is an author of over 50 articles, mainly on the treatment and diagnostic of vascular diseases, in Polish and foreign scientific magazines. In October 2010 he had earned a habilitation degree which is the highest academic qualification a person can achieve by his or her own pursuit in certain European and Asian countries.
Tomasz Ludyga, MD, PhD - Leading Surgeon and Head of Euromedic Specialist Clinics in Katowice, Poland
A graduate of Medical University of Silesia in Katowice.Since 1988 until 2001 he had been working in the Clinic of General and Vascular Surgery in Katowice. Dr Ludyga has many years of professional experience as a vascular surgeon at Vascular Wards of numerous Silesian hospitals. Since 2000 he has started to develop his own Euromedic Specialist Clinic focusing on endovascular surgery treatments. In 2009 together with doctor Marian Simka he introduced in Poland Liberation Procedure for CCSVI patients.
Prof. E. Mark Haacke, MD, PhD, USA
Dr Haacke is a Director of The Magnetic Resonance Imaging Institute for Biomedical Research in St. Louis, Missouri from July 1999 to the present. He is a highly accomplished professional, world renown for his accomplishments and contributions to the medical profession as a research scientist, professor, lecturer, author and educator.
He received his Ph.D. in June 1978 from the University of Toronto in Theoretical High Energy Physics. Dr. Haacke in the past 30 years he achieved scores of honors and awards, including the Sylvia Sorken Greenfield Award for the best paper in Medical Physics, Marie Sklodowska-Curie Prize for Visualization of Cerebral Venous Structures Using High Resolution MRI, and several others. Professionally, he was President and a Committee Chairman of the Society of Magnetic Resonance, Vice-President of Interim Board, Co-founder and President of the Joint Merger Evaluation Committee, Associate Editor of the IEEE for Transactions on Medical Physics, various Committee Chairman positions for the Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine.
Prof. Paolo Zamboni, MD, PhD, Italy
A graduated of the University of Ferrara in 1982. Prof. Zamboni he earned his specialization in Vascular Surgery at the University of Ferrara, Italy in 1992. From 2004 to the present Prof. Zamboni has been a Director in Vascular Diseases Center, Ferrara, Italy and from 2006 he has been a Professor of Surgery. Prof. Zamboni as a founder of the CCSVI theory is a President of the International Society for Neurovascular Diseases. His Honors and Awards: International Glauco Bassi Award, 1998, 2000’03, American Venous Forum Award, 2002’05’07, Scientific Prize European Venous Forum, 2002’05, Prize Gian Camillo Donadi, Collegio Italiano di Flebologia, 2003
Prof. Cristian Schulte, MD, PhD, Argentina
A graduate of the Universidad de Buenoa Aires, Professor of the Universidad Católica Argentina (post grade specialist in flebology and lynphology). Board certified cardiologist. has worked as a senior cardiologist in the cardiovascular non invasive lab of the Instituto de cardiologia y cirugia cardiovascular de la Fundacion Favaloro. He is also a vascular ultrasound expert. Presently works in the non-invasive vascular lab of the Instituto Argentino de Diagnostico y Tratamiento in Buenos Aires. Dr. Schulte has also a Masters degree in health administration. He is a co-fouder and head of Argenmedic (CCSVI Argentina).
Prof. Krzysztof Ziaja, MD, PhD, Poland
Professor Krzysztof Ziaja is a world-renowned vascular surgeon. He is a head of the department of the General and Vascular Surgery Clinic at the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice. Prof. Ziaja is a National Consultant for Angiology as well as a director of the medical journal “Chirurgia Polska”(Polish surgery). Professor Krzysztof Ziaja is the author and co-author of more than 555 publications and 22 books both in Poland and internationally.
Assoc. Prof. Ivo Petrov, MD, PhD, Bulgaria
Dr Petrov has numerous medical publications and has participated in numerous medical seminars and congresses on the national and international level. He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and also is a member of the Spanish Association of Cardiology, the Latin American Association of Interventional Cardiologists, the Bulgarian Society of Angiography and Vascular surgery, The National Society of Bulgarian Cardiologists, and he is chairman of the Bulgarian Society for Endovascular Therapy. Dr Petrov is fluent in Spanish, English and French.
The special scientific interests of Dr Petrov are in the field of optimization of primary PCI in AMI, thoracic and abdominal aorta endografting, carotid artery stenting in challenging cases.
Prof. Miro Denišlic, MD, PhD, Slovenia
Prof. Denišlic is Professor of Neurology at Medical Faculty in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and author of several articles and published books with the topic of Multiple sclerosis. Most recent one was published in October 2010. He is also serving as a Chairman of Medical Board for treatment of Multiple sclerosis and Head of MS centre MEDICOR, Isola. Among numerous functions he is also a member of Panel on Dementia by EFNS European Federation of Neurological Societies.
Vikas Gupta, MD, PhD, India
Dr Vikas Gupta holds Degree in Neurosurgery and has many International and National Publications. His basic medical graduation is from Dayanand Medical college Ludhiana. After his post doctorate degree in Neurosurgery in 1998 he continued as a Senior Research Associate (pool officer) at G.B Pant Hospital till 2002. Since 2004 he is working as Senior Consultant Neurosurgery in India. Dr Gupta is a member of Neurological Society of India, World Federation of Intervention & Therapeutic Neuroradiology, American Association of Neurology Surgeons and several others.
Kirsty Duncan, MD, PhD, Canada
Dr Kirsty Duncan is currently the Federal Member of Parliament for the riding of Etobicoke North, as well as the Vice-Chair for the House of Commons Standing Committee on Health, and the Vice-Chair for the Sub-Committee on Neurological Disease. She is an Associate Professor (on-leave) of Health Studies at the University of Toronto, and has authored two books, one of which was short-listed for the Canadian Science Writers’ Association awards. She was nominated for Canada's Top 40 Under 40 in 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2001, and in 2000 and 2001, and was awarded the Arnold G. Wedum Memorial Lectureship for 1999 at the 42nd Biological Safety Conference for 'outstanding contributions to biological safety'. She was nominated for the Order of Ontario in 2000 and 2001, and in 2007, she was recognized for her work as a Lead Author for climate change and health for Canada on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which, jointly won the Nobel Peace Prize with former Vice-President Al Gore. In 2009, she was awarded the Knowledge Millennium Award in India for her research on influenza pandemics.
Ma'moon Hasan Al-Omari, MD, PhD, Jordan
From August 2006 to the present Dr Al-Omari has been working as a Consultant Diagnostic and Interventional Radiologist at Jordan University of Science and Technology. He was also an Interventional Fellow of the Canberra Hospital in Australia. His interests include CCSVI diagnosis and management, chronic pain management, RF ablation and Peripheral Vascular Intervention. He has published an article on "Internal jugular vein morphology and hemodynamic in patients with multiple sclerosis". He has treated more than 250 cases in private clinics in Amman, Jordan.
Assoc. Prof. Tomasz Urbanek, MD, PhD, Poland
Dr Tomasz Urbanek is associated professor, vascular surgeon and angiologist at the Department of General and Vascular Surgery Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland. Dr Urbanek graduated in medicine from Medical University of Silesia in Poland in 1992 and obtained a PhD from the same university in 1998. He completed his fellowship in general surgery, vascular surgery as well as in angiology, visiting also many European and some North Amercian vascular and surgical medical centers. Dr Urbanek is a reviewer for several journals of vascular medicine as well as the author and co-author of more than 80 papers published in pre-reviewed journals and more than 150 congress presentations. In 2001 dr Urbanek awarded International Union of Phlebology Research Fellowship. Dr Urbanek is member of several European and Polish professional societies as well as a member of the Executive Committee of Polish Angiological Society, Polish Phlebological Society and Polish Society for Vascular Surgery.
Aneta Adamczyk-Ludyga, MD, PhD, Poland
A graduate of Medical University of Silesia in Katowice. She earned her specialization in ophthalmology and has many years of professional experience at the Ophthalmological Wards of The Regional Railway Hospital in Katowice and General Hospital in Dabrowa Górnicza. From 2000 to the present dr Adamczyk-Ludyga has been a head of the ophthalmology department at Euromedic Clinic.
She is a member of the Polish Ophthalmological Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons as well as the European Vitreoretinal Society.
Dr Adamczyk-Ludyga is an author of numerous medical publications and articles in Polish and international medical papers.
Pawel Latacz, MD, PhD, Poland
Graduated from Silesian Medical Academy in Katowice. He used to work in the Department of Hematology in Silesian Medical Academy in Katowice and in the John Paul II Hospital in Cracow as an Assistant at Department of Coronary Disease, Institute of Cardiology. Dr Latacz is the author and co-author of more than 20 publications presented both in Poland and internationally. He actively participates in clinical research and is a member of Polish Society of Internal Medicine as well as European Society of Cardiology. Currently he is working in Euromedic Specialist Clinic as a specialist of vascular surgery.
Thomas Cormac Gilhooly, MD, PhD, United Kingdom
Graduated from Glasgow University Medical School in 1983. In 1999 he became clinical director of the Lanarkshire Drug Service and was successful in greatly increasing the number of General Practices in Lanarkshire who offered substitution treatment to their patients. In 2002 he became Medical Co -ordinator of the GP Methadone Programme in Glasgow and introduced comprehensive training for GPs on addiction. A career long interest in nutrition resulted in the founding of The Centre For Nutritional Studies Ltd in 2002 and Glasgow Health Solutions Ltd in 2005. He is involved in several ongoing research projects including The Chinese Illness Perception Study and a study into bladder dysfunction in Multiple Sclerosis. He is also involved in fund raising for MS research.
Piotr Janas, MD, PhD, Poland
Dr Piotr Janas graduated in 1983 from the Silesian Medical Academy in Katowice. He acquired specializations in neurology, earning his first degree in 1989 and another in 1995. He gained his experience in several clinics, hospitals and medical centers across the country. He has been working in the Silesian Center of Medicine, Silesian Medical Academy and Private Specialist Clinic. From The beginning of 2010 to the present Dr Janas has been working at Euromedic Clinic as a specialist of neurology. Dr Piotr Janas is a member of the European Society of Neurosonology and Cerebral Hemodynamics.
