Over 700 registered doctors are in Miami this week, attending the ISET (International Symposium of Endovascular Therapy)  conference. This morning, CCSVI Alliance Board of Directors President, Sharon Richardson, is presenting "Trying to Get Help" -  a short history of patients looking for treatment, the influence of social media, medical tourism, clinical trials and an overview of CCSVI Alliance.

Here are the CCSVI presentations included at ISET--

ISET 2011: Featuring What You Need to Know Now!

Focus on: Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency (CCSVI)

Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency (CCSVI) refers to an obstruction of blood flow in the veins that drain the central nervous system.  Research suggests that CCSVI might cause symptoms associated with multiple sclerosis (MS), at least in some patients.

Reminiscent of the controversy that surrounded angioplasty in its early days, the global debate swirling around the endovascular procedure to treat CCSVI continues to grow as physicians, MS sufferers and patient advocates clamor to separate the potential for a cure from mere hype. What do the studies, currently limited in scope, tell us about the value of endovascular intervention for CCSVI? What novel screening method has the pioneer in this treatment established to identify ideal patient candidates? What types of trials are now underway? What is the SIR position?

Get the answers to these questions, and all the important facts, at ISET 2011. Featured speakers will include Paolo Zamboni, M.D., who first examined the possible link between CCSVI and MS and has performed numerous interventions to correct for the problem; SIR President James V. Benenati, M.D.; and other American and international physicians with experience in the procedure.

CCSVI content at ISET 2011

Sunday, Jan.16

The Symposium on Noninvasive Vascular Diagnosis

A session dedicated to CCSVI includes coverage of duplex scanning protocols and techniques to determine which patients might most benefit from intervention.

Monday, Jan. 17

Town Hall Meeting - Controversy Rages! CCSVI: Is It Real and Is There a Role for Endovascular Therapy?

The few true experts on the issue gather for a comprehensive review of the data. Leaders with clinical and research experience in the use of endovascular intervention for CCSVI - as well as the head of a growing patient advocacy movement in favor of fast-tracking its approval - will offer insight and attempt to separate fact from fiction.

Thursday, Jan. 20

Session XII: Symposium on Practical Issues Associated with CCSVI

The noted authorities give the nuts and bolts of CCSVI intervention, including diagnostic issues and patient selection, treatment techniques and challenges, follow up and - perhaps the most important question at the outset - whether interventionists should begin treating MS patients in the first place.

CCSVI Alliance will be conducting exclusive interviews with ISET participants during the week, to include on our site in the near future.  The Alliance is also hosting an information table at the conference.
