HALIFAX - Saskatchewan's health minister says MS patients in the province shouldn't be discouraged over not being in a national clinical trial of the so-called liberation treatment.

Dustin Duncan points out that 86 Saskatchewan residents are already in a trial in Albany, N.Y., that is further along than the Canadian one.

The federal government says patients will soon be recruited for trials in Vancouver and Montreal.

About 100 patients are to take part to see if the procedure to unblock narrowed neck veins helps relieve symptoms of multiple sclerosis.

Duncan says Saskatchewan is supportive of the trial and wants to be part of trying to determine whether liberation therapy works.
